Ghana: Making Cities ‘Smarter’ Through the Use of ICT


Erratic and sporadic water supply, clogged drains, sickened children and unhealthy lives – these are the everyday challenges Janet Adu faces, living in Turlako, a suburb of Accra.  Her story is captured in this video and is a vivid reminder that poor sanitation in Ghana accounts for 70 percent of out-patient attendance and 25% of under-five mortality for children. With Ghana’s cities growing at an unprecedented 3.2 percent annually, living conditions for the urban poor like Janet Adu are deteriorating rapidly.

Nashiru Mohammed gave insight into the SEND-Ghana's PartMe System at the C4C Health workshop in Tamale


The C4C workshop is an ICT4D Learning Workshop that brought together project partners working in Health with IICD 
and Edukans under the Connect4Change programme in Ghana.  It aimed at enabling Connect4Change as well as the 
project partners to learn and benefit from the experiences gained at the various project implementation and share knowledge.
PartMe is an ICT for development project that uses technology to facilitate data collection and information dissemination between SEND-Ghana, its grassroots partners and policy makers on the NHIS. The project has developed and deployed an Information Management tool known as the Open Source Monitoring Tool (OSMT).
